Stempels is situated at one of the most beautiful squares in the old centre of Haarlem. At walking distance are a lot of historical monuments, museums and almshouses. At the Klokhuisplein you find the medieval St. Bavo church. On the other side of the church is the Grote Markt. Around the corner, at the Spaarne you find the Waaggebouw and Teyler’s museum (the oldest museum in the Netherlands). Just behind Stempels is the Bakenesserhofje (founded in 1395 and the oldest almshouse in the Netherlands). The regional VVV Zuid-Kennemerland (=tourist-office) has set out a Flemish and a monumental sightseeing walk through Haarlem and both call at the Klokhuisplein. In the environment of Stempels you will find shops, pubs and restaurants. The Philharmonie (concert building) is also at the Klokhuisplein next to the Toneelschuur (theatre).
